Student Life In
Ireland
A talk by Luning Quyan
Luning Quyan, a Chinese student from Dalian studying Principles of Education
at UCD, will share some of her thoughts and those of her colleagues on the student life
for Chinese in Ireland, and the educational differences between Ireland and China.

May 8th
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
This AGM, the 27th of the ICCS, gives the membership a say in the running of our Society,
and an opportunity to become involved in the Committee of the Society through nomination
and election. All members are urged to attend.
This meeting will commence at 8.00 pm and will be chaired by our President, Dr. Da-Wen Sun.
Nominations are invited for all Officer posts and five committee posts.
Nominations should reach the Hon. Secretary, Colm Coleman, 3 Pacelli Ave., Sutton, Dublin 13,
not later than Wednesday 24th April.
(Our Hon Treasurer Norman O’Galligan has completed his three years in this post and cannot seek re-election to this post.)
Any motions for the AGM should reach the Hon Secretary not later than the Wednesday 24th April.
All motions and nominations must have a proposer and seconder, and all nominations must have the agreement of
the nominee.
Only paid up members are entitled to vote, so send in any outstanding membership fees.
The Agenda of the AGM is as follows:
1. Minutes of the Previous AGM Meeting.
2. Hon Secretary Report.
3. Hon Treasurer Report.
4. Election of President (if required)
5. Election of other officers and Committee members.
6. Any motions to be considered.
7. Any other business.
"Visit China in May"
A delegation from the ICCS will visit China as guests of The Chinese Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries
(YOUXIE), departing Dublin on Sunday May 19th. The official visit ends on Saturday 1st June.
Booking for travel with this delegation has now closed.

Barbecue
The Irish-Chinese Cultural Society will host their annual Barbecue on Sunday June 16th.
(Note that the date given in the printed Summer Newsletter is incorrect.)
Time: 2.30pm.
Venue: "Chiang Mai", 5 Claremont Road, Sandymount,
Dublin 4
(beside Sandymount Green)
Norman & Anita O’Galligan have kindly permitted the use of their garden for this enjoyable event.
The society will provide charcoal and some cooking stoves, but additional barbeque cookers are welcome.
Contact Hon. Secretary if you intend to bring a cooker.
Members are welcome to bring friends. Members will bring own food and drinks.
We will be in inviting some of the members of the Chinese Students and Scholars association,
who are mostly post-graduate students, so this could again provide an enjoyable chance to meet
some of our Chinese visitors to Ireland.

Newbridge Farm & House
We have arranged a visit to Newbridge historic House and Traditional Farm.
The farm has many animals which are of Chinese and Far East origin,
and Newbridge House is a beautifully preserved period home with many interesting features
All members attending this tour should meet in the car park at 2.15 pm.
There are ample picnic areas in the park, and a coffee room at the farm serving a variety of different foods.
The entry charges are:
Newbridge House:
Adults €5, OAP €4, Children €2.50, Family 2A+4C €15.
Farm:
Adults & OAP €1.50, Children €1.00.
