Annual General Meeting (8.00 pm)
This AGM, the 31st of the ICCS, gives the membership a say in the running of our society, and an opportunity to become involved in its committee through nomination and election. All members should have received full details by post, and are urged to attend.
This year again there is a
CPAFFC
visit to Ireland
Norman O’Galligan will present a video review of the January visit to Ireland of a delegation led by Mr Chen Haosu, the President of The Chinese Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. The highlight must be the meeting with President McAleese at Áras an Uachtaráin, but many other high-level meetings and events were packed into three hectic days in Cork and Dublin.
With his great video expertise, Norman will tell it like it was.
Annual Barbecue (2.30 pm)
For many years we have been availing of the kind hospitality of Norman and Anita O’Galligan for our Annual Barbecue. Sincere thanks are due to them for many happy Sundays in Sandymount. Now that they have moved out of town we wish them every happiness in their new home.
We have now been very kindly offered an alternative venue. Ian Broad has put at our disposal his garden at
Saval Park Gardens is off Saval Park Road, which in turn is off Barnhill Road, near its roundabout junction with Albert, Glenageary, Avondale and Killiney Roads. By DART, get off at Glenageary Station and walk up the Upper Albert Road. See the map below.
The society will provide charcoal and some cooking stoves, but additional barbeque cookers are welcome. Contact Hon. Secretary if you intend to bring a cooker.
Members are welcome to bring friends. Members must bring own food and drinks.
We will be in inviting the ambassador and his staff of the embassy and some of the members of the Chinese Students and Scholars association, who are mostly post-graduate students, so this could again provide an enjoyable social meeting.
Summer Outing
Thanks to the kind invitation of Ronnie and Lyla Steele, this year’s Summer Outing will be a visit to Silver Hill Foods
on
(Note that, unlike previous outings, this is on a weekday.)
Silver Hill Duck Farm is renowned for the quality of its duck, in Ireland and outside - especially among communities of Chinese people, those great duck connoisseurs. It is also remarkable for its totally integrated approach to production: from hatchling to prepared food products, everything - feathers, even droppings - is utilised in an efficient and environmentally friendly way. This is an opportunity to see for ourselves why awards keep coming to the Steele family firm.
We will assemble in the morning for the approximately 2-hour journey to Emyvale. We hope to make another interesting stopover on the homeward journey, but arrangements for this have not yet been finalised. Numbers for this visit are strictly limited, so booking is essential, and, since it is on a first-come-first-served basis, early booking is strongly advised. No fee is involved, but it has been suggested that, instead of using cars, it might be appropriate to hire a minibus for the day. This would require payment, probably not less than €30 per person, depending on numbers. (But even if enough people are prepared to pay for a minibus, others may, of course, prefer to travel by car as usual.)
