Exploring International Development: Key Issues and Challenges

This course is designed to provide participants with a better understanding of key issues in international development, including a focus on the roles played by Ireland and other Western countries. Topics covered include poverty, human rights, gender, famine, food security, overseas aid, trade, and the impact of the global financial crisis on developing countries. Opportunities for group discussion will be integrated throughout the course.

Tutor Details
Vincent Durac holds a PhD in Politics and has been a college lecturer and a member of the Centre for Development Studies staff team since 2000. He specialises in the politics of the Middle East and has published on political reform, civil society and democracy promotion in the region. He also teaches on the Master's In International Cooperation and Development at Bethlehem University
Andy Storey is a College Lecturer at the Centre for Development Studies at UCD. He previously worked as an economic consultant, as Trocaire’s research co-ordinator, and as assistant programme manager for Trocaire in Rwanda. He has published extensively on issues of European political economy and European foreign and security policy, as well as on aid, civil society and poverty.
