Ethics and Political Philosophy

This course will examine the following philosophers’ views on ethical and political thought: Plato on justice, goodness and society, Aristotle on the good life, Aquinas’s just war theory, Spinoza on political tolerance, Rousseau on freedom, Hegel on the state, Mill’s utilitarianism, Marx’s theory of justice, Hannah Arendt on politics and Mary Warnock on ethics. No prior knowledge of philosophy is required.

Sandra Bonetto (BA, MA, PhD) has been a tutor and lecturer of philosophy to undergraduate students and adult learners for the past 11 years. She has won several scholarships and academic awards. Her publications include articles on Nietzsche, Shakespeare and Hegel. Sandra’s particular philosophical interests are in ethics, political philosophy and the philosophy of literature.
