Individual Advice

As Student Advisers, our job is to help you make your time at UCD as fulfilling and enjoyable as possible. We recognise the individuality of each student and are happy to meet with you to discuss any issue that you would like to talk about, whether you simply want to ask “where is the Library?” or to discuss more serious or confidential matters.

Student Advisers operate an open-door policy so you can just drop in at any time for a chat. We hope your UCD journey runs as smoothly as possible but we also know that life can sometimes get complicated so please remember to get in touch with us if there is any concern you would like to discuss.

Representation

Being afforded the opportunity to go to University is a privilege but along with this comes a certain degree of responsibility. In this regard you are expected to act at all times in a respectful and mature manner and follow the student code of conduct (PDF). If, however, you find yourself in trouble with UCD Authorities for contravening any of its regulations, you should call to your Student Adviser immediately for advice on how to address the issue.

While we in no way condone misconduct, every student is entitled to a fair hearing and representation and your Student Adviser can help ensure that this happens. Student Advisers sit on various university and programme committees and in this capacity endeavour to ensure that the principles of equity are afforded to every student.

Thinking of Withdrawing or Changing Course?

Coming to university can be a daunting experience and many first year students find themselves doubting their choice of programme. If you do have such concerns it is important that you speak with a Student Adviser and seek academic advice to ensure that you reach an informed decision.

There are financial and academic implications attached to withdrawing from a programme and it is very important that you make yourself aware of these before deciding what course of action to take. One of the most important aspects of making a decision like this is timing, so please make sure you come and talk to one of us as soon as possible. For more information on fees and grants please look at the UCD Fees and Grants website.

Referrals to Other Services

Student Advisers are one part of the University’s Support Structure and should act as a first port of call for any issues you may have. Very often we can deal with an issue on the spot and if we cannot we will be able to advise you of who can assist you. We work closely with School and Programme Offices, the Student Health and Counselling services, the Students’ Union and central administration so we will know where to refer you should the need arise.
