About UCD

University College Dublin (founded in 1851) is Ireland’s largest university with over 23,000 students. The University offers a wide range of programmes within its 5 colleges and 35 schools. The main campus is situated at Belfield, a 132 Ha site 5km south of Dublin’s city centre and you can access further information at www.ucd.ie

We provide excellent learning support facilities for our students. The Agriculture and Food Science Centre, known locally as 'The Ag Building' has state of the are lecture theatres, seminar rooms and undergraduate teaching and research laboratories. A purpose-built Food Science facility has been added with dedicated food research laboratories and state of the art sensory analysis facilities. Horticulture students have access to glasshouse and field research facilities which are also based on the Belfield campus. Staff and students have access to a 250 hectare research farm –Lyons Estate – to support animal and crop production programmes.

The Agri-Food sector is lreland's most important indigenous industry and UCD is the only Irish University offering the Bachelor of Agricultural Science (BAgrSc) degree. Over 50% of our undergraduate students are from urban or non-farming backgrounds, reflecting the wide range of degree programme options available within UCD.

Programmes

As an international student you may select modules from any of 10 undergraduate BAgrSc majors subject to timetabling and availability. Our honours BAgrSc majors are:

Module Details

Details of the modules taught under each BAgrSc major may be obtained from the UCD Agri-food, Nutrition and Environmental Sciences programme options available at the following web address https://myucd.ucd.ie/programme_info/agsci.ezc ( DN040, DN042, DN043, DN044, DN045, DN046, DN047, DN048, DN049, DN091).  Within each programme select "module information" to obtain module details and schedule.  You may select modules from more than one degree programme provided there are no timetable conflicts.

Students attending UCD for the full academic session may take up to 60 credits while students attending for one semester may take up to 30 credits.

 


Assessment

Formal examinations are set in winter (December), spring (March) and summer (May).  International students are expected to undertake examinations in accordance with University regulations. Increasingly, project and class-based work forms a component of the assessment process.

Transfer of credit

Your home institution decides on credits to be awarded for modules pursued at UCD. We will be pleased to provide full information on our modules to enable your institutions make decisions regarding the transfer of credits.


Eligibility

The minimum GPA requirement is normally 3.00. All applications should be accompanied by an up-to-date academic transcript.

Student health and welfare

The Student Health Centre provides a confidential service to all UCD students, including international students. Male and female doctors are available by appointment and a nurse is available throughout the day. While at UCD, international students may also avail of the support services of an International Student Officer and Student Advisers/Chaplains. It is recommended that non-EU nationals coming to UCD have private medical insurance that is valid in Ireland.

 


Accommodation

As an International Student at UCD you may apply for self-catering on campus accommodation. You will generally share a three or four-bedroom apartment with two to three other students. You can access accommodation information at www.ucd.ie/residences/


Sports

Our sports facilities are among the finest in the country and reflect the popularity and significance of sport in UCD. All standards are catered for in the 56 official sports clubs. We have stadia for soccer, rugby, Gaelic games and hockey, as well as a modern athletics track and tennis courts. There is also a large indoor sports centre with squash courts, sports halls and a state of the art fitness suite. http://www.ucd.ie/sport


Student Societies

An exciting feature of life at UCD is the range of student societies which enable you to become actively involved in college life and to pursue your interests. There are over 100 societies to choose from. Among the best known across UCD is the Agricultural Science Society (AGSOC), which has a renowned reputation for organising a wide range of events.
