The UCD group included Professor Grace Mulcahy, Head of the School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr Finbar Mulligan and Ms Bernadette Rafter of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Professor Shane Ward of the School of Biosystems Engineering.
The purpose of the meetings was to expand the links between CAU and the UCD Institute of Food and Health arising from the MOU signed by the President in 2009 and develop new links with veterinary medicine and biosystems engineering. Discussions focused on the development of academic and student exchanges with the UCD Institute of Food and Health in the areas of food science, food safety and human nutrition. Discussion also covered the development of exchanges on the areas of green technology with particular focus on biomass to energy. The meetings provided UCD with an opportunity to expose CAU to UCD’s other programmes in agriculture and veterinary medicine. Professor Mulcahy provided CAU with an overview of Veterinary Medicine at UCD while Dr Mulligan delivered a lecture on dairy cow nutrition.
The Minister of Agriculture Mr Simon Coveney attended the final meeting of the day where he met with Mr Wang Tao, Vice-Chancellor of CAU and senior members of the faculty.
