Programme Office Team Receives Award for Supporting Student Learning

The Agriculture & Food Science Programme Office has been awarded one of the 2011 Awards for Supporting Student Learning for their development of the Stage One mid-Semester Review.

The Agriculture & Food Science Programme Office has been awarded one of the 2011 Awards for Supporting Student Learning for their development of the Stage One mid-Semester Review.

The mid-semester review comprises three threads:

1). the reiteration and development of information presented at UCD Orientation.

2). information gathering via a Student Survey, group responses and social interaction.

3). an opportunity over lunch for students to socialise with fellow students, peer mentors, academic and administrative staff.

Given the diverse demographics of our student cohort, this event reaches out to students from rural and urban homes, in Ireland and abroad, to focus on common aspects of being a Stage One Agriculture student. By capturing insights into the student experience, feedback gleaned at the Review  contributes to the continuous improvement of Agriculture and Food Science programmes.

Professor Bairbre Redmond, Deputy Registrar (Teaching and Learning) commented that, “While simple in design, the impact of the review process and, more importantly, the changes in teaching, learning and student support initiated as a result of the review have made a very significant impact on retention and performance of students in Agriculture and Food Science. The adjudication panel were particular impressed by evidence of strong teamwork in this project, by the administrative/academic collaboration at the heart of the review process and by the amount of work undertaken by the team in the first semester over a sustained period of time.”

Congratulations to the Programme Office team, pictured here.
