Welcome to the School of Agriculture and Food Science
The mission of the School is to develop and apply science scholarship to solve problems in human health, food systems and agriculture for the benefit of society through excellence in teaching and research. The School supports the indigenous agriculture and food industries in Ireland by educating students to become industry leaders and by conducting world class, cutting edge research.
Our research contributes to an improvement in the sustainability of agriculture, the quality and security of food and consumer well being. The research ethos of the School is to foster curiosity-based and hypothesis-driven research to best international standards in areas of key strategic relevance to Ireland. Furthermore, our research encompasses basic discovery of biological mechanisms, the application of knowledge to problem solving, both on-farm and during processing, and the translation of scientific discoveries into practical applications.
