EQUINOME

Equinome was established in 2009 as a result of groundbreaking research led by company founder, Dr Emmeline Hill. This research made the first known identification of a gene contributing to a specific athletic trait in Thoroughbred horses.

Initiated in 2004 and funded by a Science Foundation Ireland President of Ireland Young Researcher Award, this academic research programme was the first in the world to apply novel genetic technologies to identify genetic contributions to racing performance in Thoroughbreds. The research, endorsed by the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders' Association, was enabled by the strength of support from the Irish bloodstock industry through the provision of DNA samples from elite racehorses.

From its world-class facilities in University College Dublin, Equinome provides an accurate, secure and strictly confidential genetic testing service to the global bloodstock industry. All tests are founded in peer-reviewed science and are carried out using proprietary Equinome technology.

BoFinn Diagnostics Ltd.

BoFinn provides an immunodiagnostic testing service for the livestock industry.  The current offering targets dairy herd health.

BoFinn diagnoses herd exposure to infectious disease agents by detection of specific antibodies in bulk tank milk (BTM) and/or serum. Diseases due to parasites, viruses or bacteria can negatively affect dairy herd health and productivity, both in milk production and fertility.  Our service provides vital information that gives veterinary practitioners and farmers a disease status assessment tool for herd health management for conditions that are not under statutory regulation.

BoFinn supports innovation by promoting a unique and robust immunodiagnostic assay developed by researchers from DCU and UCD Dublin.  Services in the pipeline include novel diagnostic assays developed at the School of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine, UCD and other Research Institutions.
