Welcome to the College of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine

The College of Agriculture, Food Science & Veterinary Medicine contains the School of Agriculture and Food Scienec and the School of Veterinary Medicine. and delivers a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the areas of Agriculture, Environment, Food Science, Human Nutrition, and Veterinary Sciences. The College is committed to delivering excellence in teaching, research and innovation.
A climate of applied interdisciplinarity allows research and education to maximise its potential. Being fully aware of the important role that the College has to play in advancing scientific discovery, it invests substantial effort in providing its researchers and academics with an enabling environment.
Equally, education in the College benefits from being embedded in a vibrant research setting of international calibre. Particular attention is given to identifying and creating inter- and intra- institutional networks to ensure critical mass in specific disciplines.

The mission of the College is to develop and apply science and engineering scholarship to problems in animal health and welfare, human health, food systems and agriculture for the benefit of society through excellence in teaching and research. The College supports the indigenous agri-food and animal health industries in Ireland by educating students to become industry leaders and by conducting world class, cutting edge research.The College is a centre of expertise in the sciences underpinning the safety of the food chain, food quality, animal health and welfare and public health. Research and education in companion and sport animal health and welfare are also an important part of our mission 

Our research contributes to an improvement in the sustainability of agriculture, health and welfare of animals and humans, quality and security of food and consumer well being. The research ethos of the College is to foster curiosity-based and hypothesis-driven research to best international standards on areas of key strategic relevance to Ireland.  Furthermore, our research encompasses basic discovery of biological mechanisms, the application of knowledge to problem solving, both on-farm and during processing, and the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical applications. The interdisciplinary nature of our research programmes makes the College of Agriculture, Food Scienec & Veterinary Medicine an interesting and exciting area in which to work and study.
