agricultural meteorology. The Medals are associated with the late Dr.
Austin Bourke, who was, and remains, an inspirational figure in the
field of agricultural meteorology in Ireland. The Silver Medal is
awarded for long-term outstanding contributions to agrometeorology
while the Bronze Medal is awarded for a specific outstanding
contribution.
The Inaugural Medal The inaugural medal was presented to the late Mrs. Austin Bourke in 2004 at the Royal Irish Academy by Declan Murphy, Director of Met Eireann. ![]() The First Silver Medal The first silver medal was presented to Tom Keane (retired, Met Eireann) by Kees Stigter, in March 2006. The medal was awarded for Tom's outstanding long-term contribution to agrometeorology, both in Ireland and internationally. ![]() The Second Silver Medal The second silver medal was presented to Anthony Brereton (retired, Teagasc and UCD) by Tom Keane, in February 2008. The medal was awarded for Anthony's outstanding long-term contribution to the science of grassland management particularly with regard to agrometeorological modelling, both in Ireland and internationally. ![]() The First Bronze Medal The first bronze meddal was presented to John Casey by Andrew Moore (CSIRO, Australia) at a workshop in Johnstown Castle on Thursday 25th January 2007. ![]() The medal was awarded for
John's PhD contribution to our understandng of GHG emissions from Irish
Agriculture. The publications cited were:
