The ALC offers two graduate courses in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL): the Graduate Diploma in TESOL and the MA in TESOL.

>> The Applied Language Centre is a renowned exam centre for both the IELTS and Cambridge English exams.
Established in 1989, the Applied Language Centre (ALC) is a teaching, research and resource centre in the College of Arts & Celtic Studies. The ALC also has a university-wide remit to provide teaching, self-study, testing and advisory services across UCD and to the wider national and international community.
In 1997, the ALC moved into new premises on the first floor of the Daedalus Building at the heart of the UCD Belfield campus. The new ALC was the first customised language centre in an Irish University. The ALC now provides an excellent range of high-quality facilities for language learners and teachers.
The ALC offers programmes in the following areas:
Foreign Language Electives to undergraduate and graduate students in 12 international languages with levels ranging from beginners to advanced.
Graduate Programmes (Grad Dip, MA ) in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) aimed at pre- and post-experience teachers.
English Language courses from beginners to advanced levels to international students including those who need a certain level of competence to gain entry to a degree programme in the University.
The ALC is actively involved in research and engaged in a wide number of independent language education projects and in partnership with international and international bodies. Current research projects are in a range of areas including language teacher education, the teaching of vocabulary, language testing, language policy and planning as well as many others.
