The ALC offers a wide range of courses in the following areas:
- English as a foreign and second language
- Modern European languages
- Asian languages (Japanese and Chinese)
- Postgraduate language teacher education
The ALC has research interests across a number of fields including:
- Foreign and second language learning pedagogy
- Language teacher education
- Language policy and planning
- Language for special purposes
The Centre participates in a significant number of language-related projects on its own or in partnership with national and international organisations.
