Examination Preparation Levels

The ALC offers preparation for four levels of main suite Cambridge examinations: Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), First Certificate Examination (FCE) and Preliminary English Test (PET).

Main Suite

CPE

CPE is a very advanced level examination for learners who achieved a high level of language skills and are able to function effectively In almost any English speaking context.

CAE CAE is an advanced examination. CAE tests the ability to communicate with confidence In English for work or study purposes.

FCE

FCE is an upper intermediate level examination. It tests the ability to deal confidently with a range of written and spoken communications.

PET

PET is an intermediate level examination. It tests the ability to cope with everyday written and spoke communications.

Business English Certificate

We also offer evening courses to prepare for University of Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) examinations. BEC is available at two levels in the ALC: BEC Higher and BEC Vantage.

BEC Higher

This is an advanced examination.

BEC Vantage

BEC Vantage is an upper intermediate level examination.


Evening Courses

  • Prepare for main suite University of Cambridge examinations  (PET, FCE, CAE or CPE) and University of Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC Higher, BEC Vantage) examinations.
  • 4 sessions per year of 8-14 weeks duration: February to May, March to June and September to December.
  • 3 hours per week (usually Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday 18:30–21:30) 5 hours per week (Tuesday and Thursday 18:30-21:00).
  • Allocation to class is dependant on placement test and candidate level suitability.
  • Subject to demand.

Afternoon Courses

  • Prepare for FCE and CAE.
  • 2 sessions per year of 10-14 weeks duration: March - June and September - December.
  • 5 hours per week (usually Tuesday and Thursday 14:30-17:00)
  • Focus on specific examination practice and study techniques.
  • Allocation to class is dependant on placement test and candidate level suitability.
  • Subject to demand.
