Widening Participation Scholarships 2016

UCD recognises that the associated costs of attending third level may present a barrier for some applicants in pursuing a degree. On an annual basis, UCD Access and Lifelong Learning offer scholarships for undergraduate students who have experienced financial and /or social disadvantage.

Scholarships are supported by UCD Champions.

Widening Participation Scholarships are open to new entrants to UCD (first years) who have accepted an offer to study in UCD. Applicants must be entering a full-time undergraduate programme of study.

There are two categories of Scholarship:

Applicants will be assessed based on:

  • Household income
  • Barriers faced in accessing higher education
  • Achievements in community, charity, sport and other interests
  • Rationale for seeking a scholarship
  • Motivation to study at higher education
  • Career plans
  • Financial Need

Scholarships are valued at €1500 per annum for the normal duration of the scholar’s programme of study. Scholarships are available to students in the following programmes of study:

Business Class Gift Scholarships

Champions - Architecture

Champions - Arts

Champions – Agricultural and Food Sciences

Champions – Social Sciences

Champions – Medical Sciences

Champions - Law

Champions - Science

Champions - Engineering

Champions – Veterinary Medicine

Champions – Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science

Champions - Nursing

Scholarship offers may be made on the condition of accepting an offer to study in UCD. Scholarships will be paid in two installments each year at the end of September/early October and at the end of January.

All scholars must attend an awards ceremony at the end of November to formally accept their scholarship.
