Total Productive Maintenance
Manufacturing companies in Japan once focused their energies on winning the Deming Award, today many factories set their sights on The Japan Institute for Plant Maintenance TPM Award.
TPM, as promoted by AMT Ireland, is an effective tool for raising production efficiency. The word "Total" means that the whole factory is involved in the culture and in the activities of TPM, starting from senior managers through to the entire workforce.
The 5 key points of TPM Philosophy are;
- Aim at the creation of a collective culture relating to the attainment of maximum efficiency throughout the production process.
- Use the system so as to prevent losses and to reach the "zero accident", "zero defect", "and "zero breakdowns" in the manufacturing process.
- Involve the entire workforce. The management provides commitment and a clear TPM vision. The targets are then deployed at an intermediate level down to production line operators.
- Obtain "zero" losses through the results of the activity of teams integrated into the production system.
- Be present in all aspects of the company.
