Materialitas; working stone, carving identity

This volume explores the power and effect of stone through the meanings that emerged out of people’s engagement and encounters with its physical properties. Focused primarily on the Neolithic and Bronze Age of Atlantic Europe it brings together authors working on the materiality (materialitas) of stone via stone objects, rock art, monuments and quarrying activity. These connections cross-cut what are traditionally seen as disparate research areas within the archaeological discipline. This important volume will be published in November this year.

Coolure Demesne Crannog, Lough Derravaragh

This book by Dr Aidan O'Sullivan (UCD), Dr Rob Sands, ICT Specialist (UCD) and Eamonn P. Kelly (NMI) explores the archaeology of Coolure Demesne Crannog and its surrounding landscape. The crannog is both a significant and enigmatic addition to the range of archaeological sites to be found in the Irish midlands. Despite rich early medieval and medieval artefacts, significant location and impressive structural form, this crannog has had relatively little scholarly attention until now.
