Assessment
There is no examination at MA level. All modules have their own assessment strategies (essays, workbooks, portfolios, presentations) and these are checked for consistency of workload across the entire degree.
Entry requirements
The minimum requirement is a degree that has an overall 2:1 grade in archaeology or a cognate discipline.
References: For non UCD students and for UCD students who are not completing their Undergraduate degree in 2010, TWO references must accompany your application: one MUST be academic from the institution where your primary degree was awarded; the second reference can either be academic or from a professional employer in archaeology or from a cognate profession. Note that if your primary degree was previously awarded by UCD, we request that a current CV is submitted with application and the Personal statement be completed.
Personal Statement: Every applicant should complete this part of the application which should be approximately 300-500 words.
Foreign language documentation must be accompanied by an official translation.
If applicants are unable to provide final transcripts or any other required documentation by closing date, they should contact the School directly by e-mail prior to this date. For all queries, contact us at: emailto:archaeology@ucd.ie.
Part Time Students
The MA is available to part time students, to be completed over two years. The structure for part time students is identical to the Full time students. All cores are taught on Thurs and Fri in term time and students will need to be available on these days as a minimum. Timetabling constraints may limit the range of options available to students; please contact the Graduate Coordinator for discussion.
Progression
The MA in Archaeology is a stand-alone programme. There is no progression from it to the MLitt or PhD, but students who successfully complete the MA programme are, of course, eligible to apply for the MLitt/PhD.
