Abstract
Bardsey is a small island 3km west of the most westerly tip of the
Lleyn Peninsula in North Wales. Work here began 2002 with the chance
discovery of a mesolithic flint scatter and continued in spring 2003
with excavation of a sample of this. The stone assemblages are of
considerable interest in terms of technological traditions, patterns of
settlement, mobility, and links to other areas within the region.
Analysis of the assemblage within a broad landscape context (on
Bardsey, in north west Wales and at a national level) will enable the
evaluation of models of mesolithic settlement in the region. Fieldwork
is ongoing and plans for 2004 include test pits, survey of erosion
exposures and geophysical survey.
