Abstract
A successful application to the heritage council in 2004 and the final report of that project (reference number 13115)
demonstrated the regions rich archaeological heritage, noting the
area’s importance both in prehistory and in early Irish history. This
project also highlighted the need for a broader contextulised view of
the landscape of Lough Derravarragh. In order to facilitate this
broader vision funding was sought from the Heritage Council to fly an
11km by 11km block of landscape centred on Lough Derravarragh. These
flights will provide a series of high definition photographs that can
be used to both produce a detailed terrain model and to provide
orthorectified images for use in a GIS.
