UCD School of Archaeology’s Research Groups are:
- Landscapes, Seascapes & Wetland Archaeology
- Craft, Technology & Material Culture
- World Archaeology
- Prehistoric Archaeology
- Early Medieval and Viking Age Archaeology
- Historical & Contemporary Archaeology
Each School Research Group is:
- Co-ordinated by one or more staff members with internationally-recognised expertise in these subject areas.
- The focus for active research of several staff members, graduate students and research project staff, within the School’s externally funded research projects.
- Closely linked with the School’s PhD, MLitt and MA student research activities and projects.
- Integrated with Undergraduate teaching and learning, utilising on-line teaching resources from projects in a classroom situation.
- Linked to active discussion groups/research clusters normally organised by graduate students (PhD/MLitt) and research staff.
- Responsible for the promotion of the School’s research through UCD website, seminars, posters and other media.
UCD School of Archaeology’s Research Groups support and promote the core research and teaching strengths of the School, as reflected in the School’s funded research programmes, its publications record and graduate studies programmes.

School of Archaeology’s Research Groups successfully provide a coherent
research framework to ensure the ongoing achievement of the staff’s and
graduate student’s research goals and activities. They also aim to promote and
communicate the School’s research and publication activities to a
national/international academic and popular audience.
UCD
School of Archaeology’s Research Groups also provide a coherent research
context and framework of academic support for the School’s graduate students.
MLitt/PhD and MA students are encouraged to form links with other students
working in these areas and to engage with these groups in their own research
activities.
