Scoil na Seandálaíochta UCD

Introduction

UCD School of Archaeology’s ‘Materialising Identities’ research theme aims to promote research investigating how people in the past and present use material culture to represent, enact and negotiate aspects of social identity including ethnicity, class, gender and religious belief.  Research in the School of Archaeology has particularly focused on the use of stone, wood, pottery and metalwork and has included experimental archaeological research on a range of topics from Bronze Age weaponry to Early Medieval houses. Prehistoric and Early Medieval art are also longstanding research foci for which the School has an international reputation. Research projects led by the members of the Materialising Identities research theme have attracted funding from IRCHSS, RIA, the Heritage Council and other sources.
