Trowel XI launched 10th December 2008

Volume XI of Trowel UCD Student Archaeology Journal launched Monday 10th December at 7.30 in Theatre N of the Newman Bulding in UCD. Dr. Eoin Grogan launched this edition of the journal after which there was a free wine reception in the Forum Bar.

Trowel is the UCD Student Archaeology Journal. It is edited by UCD students and is a forum for up-and-coming archaeology students in UCD and other universities in Ireland to publish their archaeological research. Volume XI (2007) aims to build on the fantastic success of volume X, which was edited by Brian Dolan and Niall Kenny.

Volume XI includes papers on: Iron Age burial practices; identity in Early Medieval Ireland; Wedge tombs in the Burren; osteo-archaeological determinations of age-at-death in human skeletons; domestic space in early medieval Ireland; Clondalkin and suburban archaeology; 19th century Irish peasantry and Diaspora and a brief summary of the AYIA conference 2006. There is an interview with Professor Mick Aston from Time Team and reflections from Dr. Michael Ryan, Charles Doherty and a postman who became an archaeologist! We also have a number of multi-disciplinary book reviews.

Trowel XI could not have been completed without the great efforts of our individual contributors and immense generosity of our sponsors: a very special thanks to them all!

We hope that people will support Trowel and it’s contributors at the launch night , all are welcome!
