Biographical History

Educated at Trinity College Dublin, Oldham worked as a barrister on the northern circuit and founded the Protestant Home Rule Association. He was subsequently principal of the Rathmines School of Commerce and was appointed first Professor of Commerce in University College Dublin in 1909.

 

Scope and Content

Volume of handwritten lecture notes (200pp) by Professor Charles Oldham for a course in the National Economics of Ireland as part of the BComm degree in University College Dublin. Lectures are concerned primarily with the census, 1821–1911; population and emigration; topography, local land division, administration and jurisdiction; and agricultural practice and production. Included are occasional examination papers for the course.
