John Potter who traded as a merchant in Downpatrick, County Down, had a business relationship with Sir Hugh Hill of Londonderry from whom he purchased property in Down. These documents relate mainly to Potter’s dealings with Sir Hugh

Archival history
The Potter papers are part of the archives of the firm of Franks & Oulton, solicitors, 21 Lower Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin, acquired in 1971. The parent collection is being listed on the basis of individual clients, usually landed families.

Papers relating mainly to the affairs of John Potter, merchant, of Downpatrick, County Down, particularly his dealings with Sir Hugh Hill of Londonderry and his purchase of lands at Ballywarren and Ballyhasset, County Down.
