Administrative
history
The Bryan family
held lands and property in Dublin and other parts of the country,
chiefly counties Tyrone and Offaly. Some members of the family used
the prefix Butler, following the marriage of Robert Bryan to Sarah
Elizabeth Butler in 1778. The land at Buolyart [Bolart], county
Offaly, came into the possession of the family through the Rev.
Robert Dougatt (d.1830), precentor of St Patricks Cathedral,
who inherited it from his mothers brother, William King, Archbishop
of Dublin.

The Bryan family
papers are part of the archives of the firm of Franks & Oulton,
solicitors, 21 Lower Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin, acquired in 1971.
