ARCHIVE AWARENESS MONTH
Society of Archivists, Ireland
September 2003

What is Archive Awareness Month?

Archive Awareness Month is a series of events to be held in September 2003, to celebrate and uncover the amazing wealth of historical evidence contained within Archives and to showcase that wealth to a wider audience.

Archives are the raw material of history. They are the evidence of our past and are preserved so that we may have a better understanding of the society we live in today. A network of local archival repositories exists across Ireland, committed to preserving our country's history. If you are curious about what records survive for your local area, contact your Local Authority who will put you in touch with the relevant Archives Service.

What will happen during Archive Awareness Month?

Archive services will host local events around the country. Events include talks, seminars, exhibitions and open days organised by Archive services. These events will be promoted by the Society of Archivists, Ireland, the professional body for Archivists, Records Managers and Archive conservators in Ireland.
