New website for the National Archives of Ireland
Last April saw the unveiling of the new website of the National Archives <www.nationalarchives.ie>—the first Irish cultural institution, if not the first government agency, launched into (cyber)space in May 1995. While the re-designed site incorporates content from its predecessor site, there are new features such as a revised structure; an altogether new design, look and feel; and enhanced searching of our holdings via a new search engine solution and an A–Z index. Two new facilities in the Services section of the site enable prospective readers to download readerís ticket application forms in advance of their visit while those already in possession of such tickets may order documents via email, provided they intend visiting the Reading Room of the National Archives within the following two working days.

The main menus which contain more detailed drop-down menus and feature throughout the site, comprise the following: About Us, Visit Us, Research, Links, Genealogy and Services, while a sub menu bar features sections on FAQs, FOI, Electronic Records, Contact details, and the aforementioned Search and A–Z index—alternative means of accessing the site are provided by a text-only version and a replica version of the site in Irish. News updates about the National Archives are available from the homepage as are links to online exhibitions such as the current features on the records of the Office of the Secretary to the President and James Joyce's Ulysses.

Please e-mail us at <mail@nationalarchives.ie> should you have any particular queries or feedback.
