Flight of the Earls 1607-2007

Flight of the Earls 2007 is a major international flagship centenary commemoration to mark the 400th Anniversary of one of the most significant events and periods in Irish history. In 1607 a group of Ireland’s noble elite left their land and people to find refuge and seek assistance for their cause in Europe. Their departure became known as the Flight of the Earls and would cause a ripple through history that would last to present day. The Flight of the Earls marked the end of an ancient Gaelic Order and made way for the Plantation of Ulster. It also became a key event in the establishment of the Irish Diaspora across the globe.

Included in this ambitious, extensive yearlong programme of events are: festivals, seminars, exhibitions, theatre, clan gatherings, re-enactments, school projects.
