Irish Archives

The forthcoming volume of Irish Archives has as its main theme the momentous events of 1607 and their profound consequences for Irish history and archives, namely: the Flight of the Earls and the foundation of St Anthony’s College/the Irish College in Louvain from where the Franciscan scholar Mícheál Ó Cléirigh, returned to Donegal and together with monastic colleagues, compiled the Annals of the Four Masters between the years 1632 and 1636. Content will include articles and reviews on topics ranging from the Historical Manuscripts Commission and the Franciscan manuscripts to Writing Irish History: the Four Masters and their World’, an exhibition opening in the Long Room of Trinity College Library in October and the music symposium, Musical Journeys with the Flight of the Earls held in the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama last February.

The tercentenary commemorations coincide with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome and we are deeply grateful to the generosity of the European Parliament Information Office in Ireland in whose Molesworth Street premises the journal will be launched by MEP Seán Ó Neachtain on Friday 12 October next. All ISA members are welcome to attend the event and will receive their invitations in the coming weeks.

To discuss contributions, please contact the editor, Elizabeth McEvoy.
