The
‘Learn About Archives’ website
is hosted by the Society
of Archivists Ireland and provides an online information
service for the general public concerning archival material
and archive services in Ireland. It outlines the enormously
diverse and exciting historical resources available in archive
services around the country, where to find them and how to use
them. Many of the archive services have provided digitised
examples of some of the most significant and popular items in
the collections which they hold.
Particular
emphasis is placed on the provision of information and
material of use to educators and students. If you are a
student or teacher you can find digitised documents on
specific periods in history by clicking on ‘Sample
Documents’. These are gathered from archive services around
the country and can be printed out for use in the classroom or
for your own study purposes. In particular the site aims to
provide educators with inspiration for teaching with archives
in the classroom. Students at all levels will find information
on how to develop their research skills through using archival
documents.
The
‘Learn About Archives’ website was built by archivists for
users of archival resources and archive services. The site is
constantly evolving. If you have any comments or suggestions
about the site and how it can be improved, please contact the education
officer of the Society of Archivists Ireland. |
