Biography:

Following the completion of her post-graduate studies in 1994 Carla Briggs was a lecturer in the Department of History of Art & Design at Limerick School of Art until her appointment as Slide Curator at UCD School of Art History & Cultural Policy in 1998. Since 2000 Briggs has also taught and co-ordinated the Purser Griffith Lectures and University Diploma in the History of European
Painting. Previously, she worked variously for the Education departments of the National Gallery of Ireland & Dublin City Gallery: the Hugh Lane as guide, researcher, summer course co-ordinator and lecturer. She also worked as a tutor on the Art History BA programme at UCD, and devised and taught a number of Art History courses for the Adult Education Centre from 1994-2004. In addition, she has worked as picture researcher for a number of books and exhibitions. This work included research for an exhibition of the paintings of Mary Herbert and the collation a catalogue of her work for the Trustees of Muckross House, Killarney, and acting as a picture editor for The Encyclopaedia of Ireland [B. Lalor (ed), Dublin: Gill & Macmillan 2003]. Carla Briggs sits on the Editorial Committee of Artefact: the Journal of the Irish Association of Art Historians. |
