Biography:
Dr Figgis obtained a BA degree in History of Art in Trinity College Dublin, worked as Exhibitions Assistant in the Royal Academy of Arts, London. She received a doctorate from the National University of Ireland for her thesis on 'Irish Artists, Dealers and Grand Tourists in Italy in the Eighteenth Century'. Her articles on 18th century painting and patronage have been published in Irish Arts Review and the Walpole Society. She was a researcher for and contributor to A Dictionary of British and Irish Travellers in Italy 1701-1800 (Yale University Press, 1997). She co-authored Irish Paintings in the National Gallery of Ireland Vol. I [NGI, 2001] and as part of her research for this publication, she was awarded a fellowship at the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven. From 2002 to 2004 she edited Irish Architectural and Decorative Studies: the Journal of the Irish Georgian Society and currently serves on the Editorial Board of the Irish Georgian Society. |
