The College within the humanities, advances knowledge and the fostering of learning, through its creativity, innovation and excellence in research and its contribution to the development of the individual and the wider social and cultural life of global Ireland.
The College supports the academic, strategic and financial management of the constituent schools, including:

The College enhances the undergraduate teaching and learning environment providing opportunities for a unique and broad ranging education in humanities, maximising the potential of horizons. The College also provides for students taking non-humanities degree programmes to engage in key topics in the humanities. The College has a student population of over 4,000 students from a range and diversity of backgrounds, including JYA, international, occasional, new era, mature, part-time students. Our graduates have achieved distinction in many walks of life – politics, public service, law, business, academic life and the creative and performing arts.
UCD is home to the most extensive and dynamic concentration of humanities scholars within Ireland – as such the College offers a supportive academic environment whether you wish to pursue a graduate diploma, master’s or doctoral degree programme. The College Graduate School , in conjunction with the relevant research institutes, are currently designing cutting-edge themed and multi-disciplinary doctoral degree programmes.
The College through the excellent contribution of its individual researchers and research groups continues to expand its excellent international research profile developing research strands including Early Modern; Material Culture; Textual Culture; Death, Burial and the Afterlife; Negotiating Space and Place; Transatlantic Worlds; and Irish and Celtic Studies.
The College is also proud to be the custodian of a number of priceless collections: the Irish Folklore Archive, which is a national repository; the UCD Archives containing the largest collection of private papers associated with the formation of the Irish state, and the Mícheál Ó’Cleirigh Institute for the Study of Irish History and Civilization, which holds some of the most valuable surviving Gaelic manuscripts. The Irish Virtual Research Library and Archive is an innovative programme, designed to make the resources held at UCD available on the web.
