BA School Initiatives

There are a variety of BA School and College initiatives designed to make your learning experience as engaging as possible. These include project work, group work, online peer support, drop in tutorials services, writing clinics, academic mentoring and many more. Check out some of the initatives in some of the Schools below. 

College of Arts and Celtic Studies:

  • UCDscholarcast: students can find a range of podcasts here by UCD academics and experts from other universities that relates to English, History, Music, Classics, Irish Studies. New content is being added all the time. 
  • Drop-in Writing Clinics October 2012Drop-in Writing Clinics October 2013: students who need help with academic writing and who are taking subjects in the College of Arts and Celtic Studies can avail of free writing clinics. For more details for 2013-14 Writing Clinics click on the link above or contact writing.clinics@ucd.ie.

UCD School of Classics:

  • The UCD Classical Society have a very active society which runs a weekly coffee morning for staff and students every Thursday at 10:30 – 11:30 am in K217 Newman Building.

UCD School of History and Archives: 

  • Writing History: In semester 1 the School of History and Archives run several lectures and seminars dedicated to writing history essays at undergraduate levels. The lectures offer History students best practice on researching, reading, writing (structure, historiography, formatting, etc.). The seminars are to get students thinking about what makes a good essay.  Contact the School of History history@ucd.ie if you would like more information on Writing History. 

UCD School of Languages and Literature:

  • Spanish and Portuguese Studies have an active Spanish society which is run by and for students. They also have an active Facebook page. 

UCD School of English, Film and Drama:

  • UCD Drama studies have a Facebook page with up to date news and events 

UCD School of Economics: 

  • The School of Economics run drop-in tutorial sessions for undergraduate students. For 2012, they are running this drop-in service on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am-12pm in room G201A.

 UCD School of Library and Information Studies: 

  • The School of Library and Information Studies have an online support network, the SILS Community Network, which connects incoming first year Information & Social Computing students with students in stage 2.
