Weeks 5 & 6

6-17 Oct TIME MANAGEMENT & BEAT THE STRESS

This week is about beginning to really knuckle down and get to grips with your study, you start receiving assignments so it’s really important to plan your time well so that you work through what you need to do without stress.

For you it will be a week of…

  • Meeting your Peer Mentor group – your Peer Mentor will be in touch to organize a meeting to see address and queries and questions on assignments. Do go along and meet your group again, especially you are struggling to make friends. It’s a good opportunity to ask some of your group to join you for lunch or a coffee in the days and weeks to come.
  • Talking to your lecturers if you are in any way confused about assignment expectations, deadlines and handing in of assignments electronically or in hard copy. If you know you won’t get your assignment in on time and you have a legitimate reason you can apply for an extension. Contact your school, then fill in a late submission of course work form.
  • Check out the very useful essay writing support materials for students developed by the UCD Adult Education Centre.
  • Seek help with your academic writing by attending a drop-in writing clinic (for those taking subjects in the College of Arts & Celtic studies). See Drop-in Writing Clinics October 2014‌‌  for more details.
  • Attending some of the transitional and study support seminars we have planned this semester. More information can be found here.
  • Spending some time this week drawing up your individual study timetable, mark in when assignments need to be handed in and how much study you are able to give to each and when. Be realistic about this and make sure to balance your study with enjoyable social activities.
  • Checking out the UCD Student Advisers Academic Survival Kit – it has some really excellent tips on stress management, time management, motivation, studying effectively, improving your concentration etc.
