This season saw the UCD Mens B team step up two divisions from their Division 5
status last year. The season had great potential with the addition of some very good
new players which included four foreigners , however after a dissapointing start
with two losses , the season began with a gritty away win over Killester.
The annual cup run kicked of against a well organised Templeogue team which saw
a 30 point deficit cut to 5 , only for college to lose by 11 in the end.The next
game saw college play league favourites Corinthians which was the first overtime
game of the year with college unable to stay the pace , eventually losing by 7.
Tridents and Ballybrack gave the team their first run of the year with 2 straight
victories only for the next five were to have a dramatic effect on the seasons outcome. At the end of November
the team saw the loss of coach Malachy Browne to work commitments which left the team
without a coach , the next 5 games where to end the teams hopes of the playoffs due to 5 straight losses
to teams which college may have beaten in the early season. After the Christmas break saw the team`s
fortunnes change , with the addition of some new players and a new coach the team was to embark on a run
which saw hopes of the top 4 reappear. The team won their next 5 matches against teams which had previously
beaten college by big margins , which showed that the team had been playing well below their own standards
all season long.During the run , college beat teams such as Bray , Lucan and Inchicore , all whom had beaten college
before the Christmas break. As the season drew to a close , results elsewhere meant that the late surge
was not to be enough for one of the top 4 spots in April.A tough match against Corinthians away , in April
was to be a test of the team`s development , however with key players missing , owing to the holiday period
, college went down by 24 , in a match which the scoreline flattered the opponents. The last match saw Tridents
visit Belfield , a team which had been previously beaten by college , however the results this time was to be no
different with a 76 - 71 victory for UCD.The season ended with a recrd of 9 wins and 9 losses
which secures 6th place in the division.
