Who is the UCD MSc Plant Biology - Future Crops for?
The UCD MSc Plant Biology - Future Crops programme is suitable for the majority of life sceinces graduates who wish to develop their skills in Plant Biology, particularly in recent developments in genetics, biotechnology, climate change, cell and molecular biology, physiology, biotic and abiotic stress responses.

What will I learn from the UCD MSc Plant Biology - Future Crops programme  ?

Students on the UCD MSc Plant Biology - Future Crops programme will have advanced knowledge of the varierty of disciplines encompassed within Plant Biology, with emphasis on specific areas of research, which will provide the basis for the development and application of original ideas.

The ability to apply their knowledge to formulate hypotheses and test them using appropriate tools.

The ability to interpret a variety of different datasets generated in Plant Biology research.

Have a clear understanding that scientific research can be taken to the marketplace.

The ability to communicate to a specialist and non-specialist audience, in a clear and unambiguous way, the results of their investigations and/or the rationale underlying them. Strong focus will be put on writing (popular articles, scientific papers) and presenting orally.

The maturity to continue studying and critically appraise the scientific literature - especially in the areas of controversy - in a largely autonomous manner.

How will I benefit from the UCD MSc Plant Biology - Future Crops Programme?
You will obtain a Graduate level qualification in a highly reputed University, currently ranked in the world's top 114 universities (Times Higher Education Supplement 2010)

You will be taught by the strongest and broadest team of plant biologists in Ireland and have full involvement in active research groups

You will get a chance to collect and analyse your own data and acquire the skill to enable you to write up a manuscript for submission to an international peer reviewed journal and as a result, significantly enhance your resume

You will have an opportunity to develop your presentation skills for both specialist and lay audiences

What is the UCD MSc Plant Biology - Future Crops programme about?
In the last decade there has been a rapid development in our understanding of plants and their place in the world.  This has been achieved through advances in genomics, cell biology, physiology, ecology and studies on climate change.  This knowledge will be the foundation for improving existing crops and the development of novel crops through the use of new species.  There is a need to train graduates in advances in Plant Science to enable them the meet the challenges of the future and to equip them for subsequent studies and research and innovation. This proposed MSc will train graduates who choose a career path in the plant sciences. This programme utilises the expertise of the UCD staff in the School of Biology and Environmental Science, and would be interact with College and University strategic plans
