Information Kiosks

UCD Information Kiosks


Specifically designed and built for UCD by a UCD campus company, these information points are being rolled out across campus to cover the main entrances to buildings.

Their design is wheelchair accessible and those seeking help interact with the touch screen interface and vocal prompts. The units have been designed with both telephone and skype capability to connect the user directly with Campus Services if required. The units also allow the user to select the language (currently English and Irish) that they wish to use.

Kiosk Development


The kiosks provide both campus and local building information. The following information is available on each kiosk:

    1. Wayfinding
      1. Map of the campus (Google maps)
      2. Local building plans indicating
        1. You are here
        2. Toilets
        3. Open access computer rooms
        4. Photocopiers
    2. IT Services
      1. Open access computer rooms
      2. IT Services help desks
      3. General information
    3. Staff Directory
      1. A web link to the staff directory allowing the user to look up a person and get their contact number to call them on the attached phone. There is a separate project to include room numbers on this listing.
    4. Campus Facilities
      1. Location of the shops, Cafes, Bookshop, Bank, ATMs etc..
    5. General information
      1. Teaching support help
      2. Room bookings contact details
    6. Commuting
      1. Details of public transport serving the campus
    7. Emergency information
      1. Campus emergency line (7999)
    8. Multiple languages
      1. Initially the kiosks will have Irish and English
    9. Feedback facility
      1. The kiosk allows the user to send feedback via email
    10. Telephone
      1. A telephone is attached to the side of the kiosk

Kiosk Rollout


The initial rollout of the kiosks will be one per building, placed close to where the original Services Desks were located or in the lobbies of the main buildings.

It is planned to install additional kiosks in the larger buildings in January 2011. This will extend the coverage so that there is a kiosk at the main entry points to all buildings.
