Telephone Services
The standard telephone handset is the Meridian, which has a number of feature buttons including call forward, ring again, transfer, hold, and voice mail with indicator light (where applicable). Two models are available M3902 and M3904. Older models (in use, but discontinued are: M3110 and M3820)
We have extended the Voice Mail facility to every one that has a line, except those who expresed their will not to subscribe to this service.
If you just got a new extension, it is important to know that it has a Voice Mailbox. After the first logon to the service you should change the personal greeting and password.
For more information on how to use the voice mail click here.
Due to the increasing demand for extension numbers, the 706 range reached capacity. Therefore, there was a requirement to change the UCD prefix from 706xxxx to 716xxxx. To facilitate a smooth changeover both DDI (Direct Dial In) number ranges, 706xxxx and 716xxxx, have been operating together since the 1st October 2000.
From September 1st 2001 the 706xxxx number range ceased to provide a service for UCD.
If you have not yet changed your stationery and let other people know about this change to your numbers, it is very important you do it as soon as possible.
If you have any queries about your extension contact us.
Current extension numbers will not change for individuals, except in special circumstances.
These special circumstances take effect only if one is moving their telephone extension location from one building to another. In this case, the normal facility of call forwarding "old" extension numbers to "new" extension numbers for three months will continue to apply.
As part of improving the Telephone Service, the voice links to Earlsfort Terrace have been upgraded to 2Mb. The incoming lines to the main telephone switch on the Belfield Campus have also been upgraded.

All individuals receiving new telephone handsets and/or voice mail will be provided with an opportunity to receive appropriate familiarisation of the new equipment. We have booklets (available on request) which explain the use of the handsets and the Voice Mail. If you feel that you need further instructions you can contact the Telephone Services Helpdesk and arrange an appointment for a familiarisation session in your office/lab/workshop, with a member of our team.
The current arrangement for the provision of the lines provided directly by telecom operators (i.e Eircom) is subject to availability on the UCD network. Before ordering a line directly to an operator you need to check with us first to help provide the route for the line in advance. Failing to do this could result on a discontinuation of your direct line. Please contact the Telephone Services Helpdesk for further information.
The current arrangement for the provision of the specialist lines such as ISDN will continue on an individual project basis. Please contact the Telephone Services Helpdesk for further information.
Here is a list with the codes that are now in operation.
