

The CMOD on behalf of the Dept of Finance issued a request for tender in March 2001 to all telecommunications companies to offer fixed voice, fixed data, mobile voice and mobile data through a VPN solution to all Govt. Agencies, Health Boards, Local Authorities and non commercial semi state bodies. As result of this process Vodafone got awarded the contract on mobile communications. UCD is currently subscribed to the Governmet VPN.

With this service you can reach UCD extensions by just adding the prefix
"6" in front of the extension number. For instance if you want
to reach extension 7777, from your mobile, you don't need to dial 017167777.
You can just dial 67777. This will connect you to that extension number
in UCD (this feature only works while in the Republic)
