Laptops

Many members of the UCD community now use laptops. With this increased usage of laptops the following precautions to prevent theft or loss of data should be taken:

• Ensure your laptop is password protected
• Individually password protect important files or folders
• Change passwords regularly and include both alpha and numeric characters
• Regularly back up all important data to another device that is located separately
• Avoid using computer bags - try something more generic like a padded briefcase or suitcase
• Label your laptop and tag all accessories
• Note your laptop's serial number and store it in a safe place
• Use a laptop security cable to securely attach a laptop to a heavy chair, table, or desk if you need to leave it unattended
  
  

Report lost or stolen laptops to the local Donnybrook Garda Station (01 6669200) and to the First Response Room at extension 1200 (01 716 1200).

Never leave your laptop unattended!
