On the 6th December, UCD Business Alumni hosted its annual Christmas drinks and budget briefing in the Merrion Hotel. Over 140 guests attended, including UCD business graduates, members of the UCD Smurfit School Advisory Board, staff and academics and friends of the School.

The purpose of the evening was to facilitate business alumni catch up with fellow classmates and network during the festive season while gaining valuable insights on the Irish Budget from Ireland's business and academic leaders.

The evening commenced with a welcome by Mr. Lochlann Quinn, Chairman of the National Gallery of Ireland and the ESB. This was followed with an insightful briefing by Professor Eamonn Walsh on the main highlights and implications of the Budget which had been announced by the government earlier that day and the previous day. The new Dean of the Business School, Professor Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh, also presented his thoughts and commentary on the budget and its challenges and opportunities for business in 2012.

After the presentations, guests mingled with fellow graduates, board members and friends of the school, at the mulled wine and mince pie reception.
