Entrance Deck to Newman Building Complete

Work is now complete on the installation of a new Entrance Deck at the Newman Building. This connects the various pedestrian zones in the area including the James Joyce Garden and the existing stepped entrance to the Newman building. Level access is provided from the main pedestrian spine to the Newman Building improving across the stepped area for wheelchair users and the physically challenged.
The deck has been designed as a strolling path and a place to meet. Timber boards of Yellow Balau hardwood decking sourced from sustainable origins form the surface to the new external gathering space. Sculptural seating areas located within the deck relate to the existing trees and enliven the space. Light sources are used discreetly to illuminate the surrounds.

A series of other minor projects are now complete in support of the initial phase of the Newman & Humanities Regeneration Project. These works include the;

  • Development of postgraduate write up space at 2nd Floor level
  • Ceiling Renewal on Ground and 1st Floor Circulation Routes
  • Redevelopment of Welfare Facilities on 1st and 2nd Floors
  • AD Courtyard Landscaping

The Project Director, Clíona De Bhaldraithe Marsh is currently preparing briefing documents to guide the overall Newman and Humanities Regeneration Project.
