Newman Building Redevelopment Update
The Arts Cafe
The Arts Café has recently re-opened after undergoing renovation. The replacement of furniture and the reconfiguration of facilities provide a friendly welcoming atmosphere and will support an enhanced student and staff experience. The new layout will contribute to increased vibrancy in the UCD Newman Building.
Newman Audio Visual Project
To promote improved teaching and learning experience for students, UCD has initiated an upgrade of audio visual facilities in the Newman Building.
Supporting “the hardest working theatres in UCD”, the audio visual equipment in selected theatres in the UCD Newman Building has been replaced.
The goal of this project is to standardise equipment in both accessibility and function. The presence of future-proofed unified teaching technology will support a multidisciplinary approach to education. The new systems will provide flexibility in lecture theatres which often accommodate up to 600 students in one sitting.
From the novice presenter to an accomplished lecturer, it is intended that new AV technology will eliminate user anxiety and operational burden and support improved professional presentation and teaching techniques. Staff and user familiarisation sessions for this new audio visual equipment have been taking place in Theatre R in the UCD Newman Building.
Roebuck Refurbishment
UCD specifically sets out to achieve excellence in teaching and learning and student life. Funding from the sale of Earlsfort Terrace has allowed for the complete re-fit out of accommodation at Roebuck as an academic and administrative centre. The building was previously used as a student residence.
Within the framework of the Newman redevelopment project it was agreed to establish the School of Education activity in Roebuck on an interim basis. This will enable the necessary improvements and changes to the accommodation in the Newman Building.
High quality refurbished space at Roebuck Hall will also accommodate the move of Human Resources from rented accommodation at Belfield Office Park.
