Launch of the new UCD Patterson hockey pitch
The University's mission is to be the best and provide the best opportunities for all students. A key aspect of University life can be gained through the medium of sport and exercise. The University formally launched the new state-of-the-art Patterson hockey pitch in December 2008. Located beside the synthetic rugby pitch, this facility replaces the current polygrass hockey pitch, and has been provided as part of the enabling works for the new Student Learning Leisure and Sport Complex.

The new floodlit Patterson all-weather hockey pitch is built on the site of a former grass rugby pitch near Richview. The rugby pitch has been relocated to beside the O’Kane Film Institute, and enhanced with the addition of floodlights.
The new floodlit and sand-filled hockey pitch is finished to a high standard and has full accreditation for international training and matches. The pitch can also be divided into four 7-a-side soccer pitches.
The new pitch is another addition in the University's rapidly expanding portfolio of performance venues for both its students and the wider community to enjoy. The construction of this facility will help attract students, staff and the wider community to use the comprehensive suite of sports and recreational facilities at UCD.
