Development of the UCD Newman Joyce Precinct, Belfield
Designed to enhance academic capacity, programmes, infrastructure and student supports a project to redevelop the UCD Newman Joyce Precinct has commenced.
As part of a rolling programme of extensive refurbishment works, UCD intends to appoint Scott Tallon Walker Architects to develop a masterplan which would facilitate changes in programme delivery, emergent initiatives and the provision of world-class exhibition and public engagement spaces.
Consideration is being given to the inclusion of a new flagship building, linking the UCD John Henry Newman Building and the UCD James Joyce Library, designed to be a “Gathering Place” for the arts, humanities and social sciences.
To enable the advancement of the UCD Newman Joyce Precinct project a clear vision is being established, outlining key objectives and potential impacts of the proposed investment with respect to intellectual capital (staffing and scholarships), academic programme development and physical infrastructure.
The masterplan workshop process is expected to commence in early 2013 and may involve a monthly series of meetings across a range of topics such as teaching and learning, research and innovation, library, student, senior management, administrative support, performance, exhibition and public engagement activities. It is anticipated that this process may take 4-6 months.
