The most powerful laser in the Republic of Ireland is due to arrive from the US

“The most powerful laser in the Republic of Ireland is due to arrive from the US in the final week of April.  It is a Quantronix TeraWatt laser including the Thor final stage amplifier.”

Funded by Science Foundation Ireland, principal investigators Dr Emma Sokell and Dr Fergal O'Reilly of the Spectroscopy Group in the UCD School of Physics will perform intense plasma physics and generate coherent soft X-ray radiation using this new cutting edge technology.

The new laser equipment will be located in the Science Centre North which was recently renovated under the HEA Research Facilities Enhancement Scheme (RFES). The redevelopment has generated improved laser laboratory facilities and serves to advance the University’s strategic priorities by increasing research capacity, developing laboratory and write up facilities, and supporting the co-location of complimentary activities.
