New Teaching Facilities for Science and Engineering
UCD has embarked on a strategy to become an internationally recognised University that attracts the brightest students and researchers, and that prides itself in the quality of the student academic achievement and research.
The programmes for teaching and research in Science and Engineering are key to the realisation of this strategy for the University. The redevelopment of the UCD Science Centre unites the scientific disciplines to provide an educational roadmap from primary school through the undergraduate programmes and onto postgraduate training and research. This creates a hub of discovery and enterprise which will be a showcase of Ireland’s ingenuity and drive for excellence.
Planning permission for the next phase of the UCD Science Centre is in place which will include both the construction of 10,000 sq.m of new teaching laboratory and classroom facilities in Science East and the complete refurbishment of 8,600 sq.m of Science Hub outdated 1960s facilities.

This development shall provide modern, safe and bright science facilities to enable the highest quality of teaching and training. By encouraging participation in science and engineering disciplines, and supporting independent thinking and discovery, the proposed physical development will facilitate enhanced solution-based learning, the communication and sharing of ideas, collaboration, and multi-disciplinary teamwork.
The transformation of science at UCD will be achieved by building on the major curricular reform which has taken place over the recent years and by leveraging the knowledge and expertise of UCD’s newly recruited and existing staff, in facilities which will make possible the implementation of contemporary methods in teaching and learning. At the core of these methods is an understanding
